Pennington, N.J. (May 20, 2010) –
PD-LD, Inc., the worldwide leader in
Volume Bragg Grating® (VBG
®) technology, was recently awarded an additional U.S patent for expanded VBG applications in laser output modification. U.S. Patent No. 7,697,589 builds on other patents secured by PD-LD to expand VBG technology applications. In particular, this patent reveals a new application that enables VBG technology to directly modify laser output without the need for an additional mirror or lens.
“This new technology is very practical, due to its simplicity,” said Dr. Boris Volodin, PD-LD’s Chief Technical Officer. “It streamlines the modification process, particularly when applied to laser diode stacks.”
The technology is particularly well-suited to high-powered solid-state laser pumping and similar applications.
“This patent further enlarges PD-LD’s intellectual property portfolio in the area of VBGs,” said Dr. Vladimir Ban, PD-LD President and CEO. “Of particular interest is that such a simple laser and VBG setup can yield a very effective wavelength stabilization.”
